Pattaya / Jomtien
Pattaya Jomtien is the closest kitesurf beach to Bangkok, just a 1:30h drive. The kiteboarding beach is in Jomtien just south of Pattaya. Winds are mostly thermal and kick in after noon. Be ready to catch the 2 hours of wind! Best month to go are the winter month from October to March. Wind is probably best February to end of March. Wind ranges from 8 to 20 knots, perfect for the beginner and intermediate kitesurfer. You need some luck, be prepared for those no wind days! The water is warm, so no wetsuit is needed. The water quality in Jomtien is better than in the polluted Pattaya area, but we say it's far from clean. The kite beach is narrow and you need to be careful with launching. Fisher boats are anchored in some areas and you need to be careful! At the weekend the Thai crowd enters the beach. Watch out for them, the concept of danger is not very well known around there. Thailand's Pattaya has a huge seedy nightlife. Families are better off in Jomtien. Plenty of options for no-wind days i.e. wakeboarding! ![]()
